What to check when a scheduled social media post fails
Find the failed destination, distinguish access problems from content problems and verify the outcome before retrying a client post.

A scheduled time is a plan, not proof of publication. When a post fails, first find out which destination failed and why. Repeatedly pressing publish can obscure the original problem, and treating a partial success as a total failure can confuse your client.
Read the destination result first
A post sent to three channels has three outcomes. One can be live while another needs a new connection and a third is still processing video. Open the post's status details and record what happened on each destination. If the result is uncertain, inspect the account itself before deciding to resend.
| What you see | First check | Possible next action |
|---|---|---|
| Connection or authorization error | Correct account and access owner | Reconnect through Accounts |
| Media rejected | Supported format, size and required fields | Correct the media or network settings |
| Plan-related pause | Channel and publishing allowance | Resolve the limit before retrying |
| Temporary provider problem | Retry or processing status | Allow an existing retry to finish |
| Partly published | Which destinations already succeeded | Recover only the unsuccessful work |
Fix the cause before another attempt
For an expired connection, ask the person with the appropriate access to reconnect. Confirm the resulting Page, profile or location. A successful sign-in to the wrong destination does not repair the intended client's publishing flow.
For a content problem, inspect network-specific settings as well as the common caption. Video details, a required title or a selected board can matter. Use the error and current composer controls to guide the correction instead of changing several unrelated things at once.
Distinguish processing from failure
Some providers accept a video and finish processing later. A post that is still publishing is not necessarily ready for a retry. Postfliq refreshes outstanding publishing states in the planner. Give that result time to resolve, then inspect the destination details if it remains unclear.
Postfliq's publishing pipeline tracks successful destinations so a retry can focus on unfinished work. Still check the live account when the upstream result is ambiguous. Network responses and the visible account can differ briefly, especially during processing.
Keep the client informed with facts
A useful note says what is known: “The Facebook post is live. The Instagram destination needs a reconnect; I have requested it from the access owner.” Avoid saying everything failed when one channel succeeded, or promising an exact recovery time before the underlying problem is understood.
If an announcement is time-sensitive, decide whether it still makes sense to publish late. An expired offer should be revised or dropped rather than sent merely to clear a failed row.
Prevent the repeatable problems
- Verify one representative post during onboarding.
- Keep the connection owner's contact in the client brief.
- Check accounts marked for reconnection before the next deadline.
- Review required media and destination settings before requesting approval.
- Include a post-publication check in the operating routine.
Use Postfliq's client overview to find failed or partly published work by brand. The onboarding checklist and account organization guide help put the preventive steps in place.
